Learning Outcomes

These learning outcomes are for a week long Bugs unit in my Pre-k class. The unit covers Ladybugs, Spiders, Bees, Butterflies and Worms. The unit is a multiple subject unit including literacy, science, math, social science, art and motor skills. The lesson plans include whole group, small group and individual activities.

·         Students will be able to name and describe the five bugs covered by the unit at the end of the week.

·         Students will be able to identify three things that worms need to live with 75% accuracy.

·         Students will be able to design a spider using information recalled from a nonfiction story.

Test Items

·        Students will create a bug folder that highlights their favorite projects from the bug unit. They will pick their own pieces to include in the bug folder with the specific instructions to include all of the bugs from the week. Then they will present the bug folders to each other in small groups.

·         The class will complete a worksheet that asks them to circle the correct three items from a group of six items that worms need to live. Students should correctly identify air, water and dirt.

·        Students will create a paper plate spider that has 8 eyes and 8 legs. Students will be graded on the quality of the construction and the accuracy of the anatomy of the spider they create.

Essay Item-

For a second or third grade class

Students will correctly answer the following prompts in a short paragraph format

What three items do worms need to live? Why are these three items important to worms?*

*Essay items would be answered as a large group with teacher assistance in writing and reading the question with a pre-k class.
